The Nurturing Parenting Programs®
Family-centered initiative designed to build nurturing parenting skills as an alternative to abusive and neglecting parenting and child-rearing practices. The long term goals are to prevent recidivism in families receiving social services, lower the rate of multi-parent teenage pregnancies, reduce the rate of juvenile delinquency and alcohol abuse, and stop the intergenerational cycle of child abuse by teaching positive parenting behaviors.
The Nurturing Programs target all families at risk for abuse and neglect with children birth to 18 years.
Crianza con Cariño is the Nurturing Parenting Program® for our Hispanic families.

Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry and Cooking Matters
Share Our Strength®, a national nonprofit, is ending childhood hunger in America by connecting children with the nutritious food they need to lead healthy, active lives. Through its No Kid Hungry® Campaign – a national effort to end childhood hunger in America by 2015 – Share Our Strength ensures children in need are enrolled in federal nutrition programs, invests in community organizations fighting hunger, teaches families how to cook healthy, affordable meals, and builds public-private partnerships to end childhood hunger, at the state and city level. Visit Strength.org to get involved.
Share Our Strength’s Cooking Matters is a groundbreaking nutrition education program that helps families help themselves by teaching them how to prepare healthy low-cost meals.
Professional chefs and nutritionists volunteer their time and expertise to lead hands-on courses that instruct adults, teens, and kids living in low-income families, how to get the most nutrition out of a limited budget.
Pagosa Nurturing Center hosts Cooking Matters classes to families and children. We are also a free summer lunch program site for children through the age of 18.
